Choosing a trailer
Start with the load: what you haul, its heaviest weight, and how you load it. Then match the trailer type, its GVWR and your truck’s towing setup.
PJ trailer types we stock
| Type | Good for | PJ models in our inventory |
|---|---|---|
| Dump | Gravel, debris, landscape material | D5 utility dump, D3/DL low-profile, DE, DT telescopic, D7 14K |
| Equipment | Skid steers, mini excavators | CE (5″ channel), CD |
| Tilt equipment | Loading without ramps | T6 low-profile tilt, TJ HD tilt |
| Deckover | Wide loads over the wheels | L7, F8 I-beam deckover |
| Gooseneck flatdeck | Heavy, long loads (gooseneck hitch) | LD low-pro flatdeck |
| Utility | Light general hauling | UL |
Do the weight math
Payload = the trailer’s GVWR minus its empty weight. PJ publishes both for each model — for example, the D7 14′ dump: 14,000 lb GVWR, 3,660 lb empty, 10,340 lb load capacity. Then check that your truck’s towing capacity and hitch rating cover the loaded trailer. Use our payload calculator for the truck side.
After you buy
- PJ Trailers model year 2010 and later carry a 3-year frame and 1-year limited warranty. Register the trailer with PJ; registration comes before any warranty claim.
- Keep the PJ owner’s manual, and the Dexter axle manual for brake and bearing service.
